Sourdough Devils Food Cake
3/4 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
1 cup sourdough starter
3 cups sifted cake flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup boiling water
2 eggs
Cream together sugar and shortening together until very light. Add eggs
one at a time and beat them in well. Sift flour, salt and cocoa together and
add alternately with sourdough starter. Beat until nice and smooth. Soda is
dissolved in 1 cup of boiling water is added last. Mix until well blended.
Bake in a 9x9 inch square pan for 40 minutes at 350 degrees.
