Iced Sugar Cookies

These are perfect for Christmas, Halloween, Easter
or anytime you wish to use cookie cutters.

4 1/2 cups sifted flour

4 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

1/2 pound ( 2 sticks) butter

2 cups sugar

2 eggs

1/2 cup milk

1/2 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Butter baking sheets. Sift together dry

ingredients. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and beat

well. Add dry ingredients, 1 cup at a time, alternating with milk and

vanilla, beating well after each addition. Wrap and chill dough at least

1 hour. Divide dough into 4 pieces. Roll 1 piece at a time on a floured

board and cut with large cookie cutters. Bake 8-10 minutes. Cool on

racks. Makes approximately 40 3" cookies

ICING

1 cup confectioner's sugar

1 egg white

2-3 drops lemon juice

Food coloring is optional

Mix icing ingredients together until smooth. Spread on cooked

cookies and sprinkle with colored sugars or use a pastry bag to

pipe designs with variously colored icings.
