Green Bean Parmesan

2 (9 oz) packages frozen French style green beans

Milk

1/4 cup chopped onion

2 tbsp butter

2 tbsp all purpose flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 (5 oz) can water chestnuts, drained and sliced

3/4 cup soft bread crumbs

2 tbsp melted butter

Cook beans according to package directions; drain, reserving liquid.

Add milk to reserved liquid to make 1 1/4 cups; set aside. In saucepan

cook onion in 2 tbsp butter until tender. Blend in flour and salt. Stir in milk

mixture all at once; cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Stir in half the

Parmesan cheese. Stir in the cooked beans and sliced water chestnuts;

turn into a 1 quart casserole. Toss crumbs with the remaining Parmesan and

melted butter to combine; sprinkle atop the casserole. Bake uncovered,

in a preheated 350 degree oven until hot and bubbly, about 30 minutes.

Garnish with additional sliced water chestnuts, if desired.
